After the long Lockdown period, the cafe is opened again and we were delighted to welcome back some regular faces, as well as a sprinkling of new faces

​

Initially it will be open on Wednesdays only, between 1pm and 3pm.

​

Established in 2017, the cafe operates to provide a ‘safe space’ for the disenfranchised of the town, including the poor, the lonely, the addicted and those with mental health issues. Support involves input from Angus Council Social Care officers and Housing support staff as well as providing refreshments, activities, games and puzzles, cooking classes, making bird boxes for fundraising, occasional haircuts and even manicures. 

 

At our clients’ suggestions, we have had talks from the Community Police, local Firefighters explaining home fire safety fire and basic first aid. Peter Davidson, director of Montrose Links Trust described their Community Activities encouraging some of our members to join their walking groups. A very worthwhile session was held by a member of the Community Mental Health team.

 

We’ve had very well appreciated summer outings to Edzell park as well as RRS Discovery and the V&A in Dundee.

Clients numbers have built up since we started, and can now vary daily between twelve and occasionally sixteen. PHILOS is supported by many volunteers, mainly from MS&F.
